i have just recently added a dd fluidised reactor with 500ml of bio-pearls in and my issue that i needed help with is going which was the nitrates which is starting to go down after just 4 days only slightly but its going.
now the issue i have is that i have never had nitrites ever before and now i am getting a reading of 0.25 on the api which i have never had before i am now also getting cloudy water but i have no ammonia reading at all.
i have done a water change and its still cloudy the water and i make my own ro and its at 000tds and use red sea coral pro salt.
all the fish and corals are happy and everything i just have this cloudy water and nitrite reading which i never had before i added the bio-pearls i have added a new skimmer at the same time but that is only pulling out alittle due to still bedding in.
any help would be great

i would have added the skimmer first, then the pearls. u will get cloudy water from the pearls if the skimmer isnt pulling out the effluent bacteria from the pearls. also if this bacteria is left in the tank, it will break down back into the nitrates it has assimilated whilst on the pearls. what skimmer have u gone 4?

have you pointed the outlet from the reactor towards the skimmer inlet ? mine is around 3'' away with a 90 degree bend pointing towards the skimmer

yeah will probs need 2 90deg bends to get it facing forward but gunna leave the skimmer another day then re-start the reactor i tried it again today and the skimmer started going abit nutty and throwing up really wet bubbles not the normal foam

the outlet MUST face the skimmer

The problem I had was that if the outlet from the reactor is pointed at the skimmer then the skimmer will need turning down quite alot The pearls will take a few weeks to kick in and then the skimmer will pull the crap out much better Huh m8

the skimmer is at fault turned it off to empty the cup turned it back on and its either fault in the pump or the valve as its just dumping bubbles out of the valve which it has never done before i am taking it back tomorrow.
the reactor etc is running ok but i have had to switch em both off because the skimmer isnt skimming but just filling the cup with water because it looks like something has broke on the skimmer cos no matter what i do its just constantly filling the cup with water
