so as you know i am building a fish house getting the prices togeather for the building of the house but just thought i would start a thread here to get your input and general thoughts of what i am doing.
so what glassware am i having well i am looking at:
6'x3'x3' display with 4'x2'x2' sump (volume: display: 1500L Sump: 250L Total:1750L) 3'x2'x18" x4 (3 displays, 1 sump) (marine rack) (displays: 255Lx3 Sump: 175L Total: 940L) 3'x2'x18" x4 (3 displays, 1 sump) (marine/breeding rack)(displays: 255Lx3 Sump: 175L Total: 940L) 3'x2'x18" x4 (3 displays, 1 sump) (tropical)(displays: 255Lx3 Sump: 175L Total: 940L)
Total Volume: 4570Litres
that should do it, this does inc space for a work bench and water/RO station
now as for lighting etc this is gunna be all LED cheaper to work with and meaning i am not shelling out for bulbs all the time as for stock
the big display is gunna be fish only predator so puffer's, morays, lions only a few nothing out of this world unless some dragon morays come up lol
the normal marine rack is going to be reef so clowns etc and probably one set aside for critters/frags
breeding marine set up is going to be for seahorses....yes i know ponies but these boys and girls are something that needs to be looked after.
tropical rack is for really what ever i fancy might even get some oddballs (fire eels anyone? lol)
and that should about do it all these tanks plus my 4 in the house and the pond makes a grand total of : 6040Litres!
.....must be bloody mad!

filtration wise i thinking on the big display something like a big bubble magus skimmer (kinda think they are unsung been i have one and think they are simple and very effective) which with there been no coral in there shouldnt have to worry too much but i am gunna add 2 maybe 3 reactors one with bio pearls, one with carbon and the 3rd if i add one might double up on bio pearls.
within the sump i am gunna run LR same within the main display but what i am kicking around is the idea of running no sand bed and just LR i dunno will cross that bridge when i fall in the water.
as for the lights for the FOWLR i am gunna run either some cheaper LED lumiares rather than T5 mainly for heat and energy consumption.
as for the mini reef tanks we are looking at lighting been LED's (spot the theme) and bubble magus skimmers with LR and corals mainly softies and LPS and i might even dabble with SPS
the breeding system been for ponies in gunna be LED light and and a small skimmer due to it been for breeding but there is gunna be little LR think planted marine.
same for the tropical but i am wondering if skimmer on a tropical tank would work in terms of pulling gung out of the water, i have seen in done with surface skimmers on big predator tanks with arrowa and red tail cat fish i dont know time will tell.
i think its going to be a case of using the gear i know and what i can pick up relatively cheap if i can do my 300L on less than a grand inc new return, powerhead and skimmer i am sure i can do these thou i might need help drilling the tanks and setting up with my dad still not been 100%
its all good lol

sounds good. I wouldn't have thought skimming the freshwater tanks possible due to not achieving a small enough bubble size. I have seen freshwater skimmers, but these all ran on a compressor and wooden air stones to try and get fine enough bubbles. also have you thought of miracal mud for the ponies? It would mean you can dispense of the skimmer ( eliminating any micro bubble issues the horses might have) and also produces a huge amount of natural live food. I know london zoo use it on their sea horse breeding systems.

not thought about mud system for the ponies i think that might be the way forward and it was just a thought on the freshwater but i will just fill it with media to catch particles in the water
