hello fellas (and any other girlies out there)!
just wanted to share this and get someone else's opinion please.
I picked up tonight a brittle star fish (hes a big boy, lol) as someone else wanted to find him a new home as he thinks he ate one of his fish. The guy was nice and im not knocking him at all, but he was new to reefing and i wasn't sure if the star had attually killed his fish. We already have brittle star and have had her for years with absolutley no probs. I'm not saying 100% it didnt kill his fish as i know they 'can'. But his tank had a bad algae problem and once i got home i checked his water, only salinity and nitrates. sg-1.031 and nitrates were thru the roof! put it this way the colour was not on the chart!
now am i right in thinking that chances are he lost his fish because of the bad water and not the star??
by the way he was direct feeding him once a week.
thanks for any replies

Probably was that the fish was sick or already dead, green brittles are exposed to a wide range of water params and are very hardy so it could have been the water Green brittlestars are also known to trap sleeping fish at night and are also known to eat corals too

yeh, i guessed he would of been fine. i thought chances were slim that it would be him.
if it eats my corals, hes out!! ive only got a couple of fish n they are quick lol my other brittle star has never caused any probs, so fingers crossed he will be ok. (im hoping now, lol)

Probs poor water conditions rather than the star tho I am not a fan of starfish in general

i dont think anything is ugly i just think that star fish (other than brittle stars) tend to kick the bucket and i think they should either be left in the sea or only housed in large systems
