Hey guys.
As im new to the club and forum, i thought i would get a tread going where u guys could tell me about your tanks. We all know in this hobby that most of us change their tanks and systems fairly regularly so i thought we could do past tanks, current tanks and future plans.
i will start:
7 years ago i got my first personal marine tank ( i had been looking after marine tanks and systems long before this, however never taken the plunge into paying for my own lol) I started this with a converted juwel rio 180. Im afraid i dont have any pics of this early tank. It was run with a hang on skimmer, an ehiem external filled with live rock and just 2 t5's on it. obviously the main inhabitents were softies ect.
I then upgraded to and aquamedic perc 120 (4'x2'x2'). for anyone who hasnt seen one of these it has a filter chamber at the back which i filled with live rock. It had a twin 150w metal halide on it. This was where i started to get more of an interest in hard corals. However i was never happy with how the system ran, i was constantly struggaling with nitrates. here are some pics of the tank and stock.
After this i decided to go for somthing more custom, so i went for a 2'x2'x2' sea bray cube with a sump. I ran this system loads of different ways. i started off with a dsb and skimmer, again i struggled with nitrates, i then wh=ent down the reactor ruit, a denitrafier, phos reactor and skimmer, this worked fairly well, however i still wasnt getting great growth and colours out of my corals, i then finaly settled on the zeo vit method. it was lit by one 250w halide and t5 blues. here are some pics:
I had so many draw backs with this tank, i had acro eating flatworm that killed all of my branching sps, i then had a heater stick on and get the tank to 34 c before i got home to find everything dead. still i carried on.
at the same time as this i also set up a 40cm cube for softied ect in my bed room. i did this myself using an aquaone cube and drilling it. it was very simple using a dsb flow and led lighting. i intended it for sea horses gorgonians ect.
finaly i then moved to a 3rd floor flat with timber floors. unfotunatly this ment the 2x2x2 had to downsize. this time i did it all my self, i aquired the glass for a 60cm,40cmx40cm rimless opti white. i reinforced a gloss stand from ikea, constructed a sump to go in it and stuck it all together. as some of u might tell i have a thing for sps so the idea was that it would be all sps. it was lit by 6 24w t5's and had a large turnover fromt he sump. unfortunatly it never really took shape as i was offerd my new job which involed a 200 mile move. i wasnt prepared to move all the live stock so it has been broken down. heres some pics of the build.
tank made
holes marked and drilled
standpipe in
wier and electrics done
sorry it so pics heavy.
and finaly the future? well i will be settaling into a new house after christmas so the rimless will be set up again then. but i do have plans for a 6x2x2, just got to let the wife know first lmao.
now its ur turn:
cheers
